Challenges in the intervention of professionals in cases of domestic violence
Provocări în intervenția profesioniștilor în cazuri de violență domestică
On April 21st 2021 a law which stipulates the monitoring of aggressors by means of an electronic bracelet was adopted unanimously – this is a significant victory in the protection of domestic violence survivors who obtained a restraining order. However, there are still a few steps to take until such a monitoring system for aggressors will become functional.
Moreover, professionals in the field of the prevention and the fight against domestic violence - social workers, police officers, prosecutors, judges – face numerous challenges in their interventions for the security of women and girls. The lack of proper funding, on a local and on a central level, of counselling and information services for victims and aggressors, the obstacles concerning the access of women from vulnerable groups to services and justice, the prejudices and stereotypes regarding victims and aggressors are just a few of the problems which pose limitations when it comes to ensuring that women’s rights are respected in cases of domestic violence.
Together with specialists, decision makers, and representatives of nongovernmental organisations, we will talk about these challenges and we will identify various recommendations and solutions aimed at the abiding by and the successful enforcement of the laws in the field.
