The first documentary film festival in Bucharest and the only one in Romania dedicated to human rights started in 2008 by collaborating with the One World Festival in Prague, brought to Bucharest as an initiative of the Czech Center. With time, the concept, selection and organization became autonomous so in 2009, the festival team created the One World Romania Association. Besides the event held every March in Bucharest, the association organizes several established year-round projects - echoes of the festival throught the year. These projects support the digitization and reinterpretation of the Romanian documentary film heritage, the alternative distribution of documentaries in small and medium-sized cities, the use of documentary film as a teaching tool, the development of new documentary films on social issues and bring to the public the most important documentaries in cinema history.
