Performing Ecology

What connects these different films is the exploration of the relationship between man and nature. This starts in ”Landscape Damage” as an acoustic performance in which radio waves are replayed into the night as hissing and crashing. In ”Animistica,” wondrous creatures grow from animal carcasses and natural transience merges with artificial re-animation. ”Antarctic Traces” deals with one of the bloodiest chapters of human exploitation of natural life, while ”Imperial Irrigation” uses surrealism and digital alteration to access the deeper layers and truths of a land. In ”Paradise Later,” Joseph Conrad's ”Heart of Darkness” is transposed from the African rainforest to the garbage-strewn suburbs of an Asian metropolis, painting an apocalyptic picture of our world. The discomfort finally becomes physical in ”TRAFO,” in which the faces of the protagonists' bodies are subjected to all possible and impossible strains and deformations. How far can physical acquiescence be pushed and where are the limits of what is reasonable – both politically and otherwise?

Sixpackfilm

Sixpackfilm was founded in the early 1990s as a non-commercial sales and distribution company for independently produced Austrian films and videos. Our main tasks include festival support through selected current works of all genres and lengths, as well as handling distribution requests, licensing, or acquisitions. In addition to current films, our steadily growing catalog includes a comprehensive spectrum of contributions to the history of the Austrian film avant-garde since the 1950s.
